Anna Elizabeth Hughey

Well our life has changed.....and it's the best change in the world!!! Introducing Miss Anna Elizabeth Hughey! We went to the doctor on May 3rd for my 37 week check up. I have had some blood pressure issues throughout the pregnancy and my blood pressure was really high on this day. So my doctor sent me over to the hospital for a 24 hour observation and urine collection. So my mom hurried to the hospital and we hung out all day. The next morning, May 4th, my new nurse came in and she put the monitor on Anna and we sat and listened to her heart beat for about 20 minutes. The nurse came back in to take the monitors off and we were talking. She said you just had two contractions did you not feel them? And I hadn't felt either of them. I was getting ready to go use the bathroom and take a shower, when all of the sudden my water broke! I took a shower and the doctor came over and checked me. I was dilated to a centimeter. So we moved over to labor and delivery. I had contractions for awhile and never could feel any of them. The computer systems were messed up that day because they were getting a new system so it wasn't monitoring my contractions correctly. Then the contractions started! They weren't showing up on the monitor so when I asked Jeffrey if I was having a contraction he would say no and I was like what the heck these hurt. Since I thought I was only dilated a centimeter I didn't want to be a baby and get an epidural already, so I had them give me some pain meds which were awful and made me so sick. They checked again and I was dilated to a 3 so I decided it was time for the epidural. I had been worried about the epidural before hand but after feeling those contractions I just wanted something to make me feel better. I am glad I got my epidural when I did because I dilated to a 5 very quickly then before I knew it I was dilated to a 7. I only pushed for about 15 minutes and Anna was born at 6:01 pm and she was perfect. She weighed 4lbs 12 oz and was 18 inches long. It's amazing she is so small because I was huge!!

She was born at 37 weeks and 2 days so she was considered a near term baby. She stayed in the nursery with the other babies but had her own nurse. I was discharged from the hospital on Thursday May 6th but since Anna had lost weight down to 4lb 5oz we were able to room in while she stayed in the hospital. We finally went home on Mother's Day, May 9th, what a great Mother's Day gift.

Anna will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and as of Friday weighed 4lb 14oz. We are nursing like crazy working on getting her weight up. We go back to the doctor on Friday for another weight check.
I love being a mom, Anna is the sweetest little girl in the whole world and I love her more than anything in this world.
