Weekend

I will start with Thursday...we have been very busy! Thursday Jeffrey's work threw us a baby shower so I loaded Anna up in the car and my brother came along to help me with Anna and headed up to Jeffrey's work. It was so sweet of them to throw us a shower and it was very simple and small which was nice because I could talk with everyone. We got some really cute stuff and lots of diapers which is great because I don't think you can ever have too many diapers. Friday Anna had a weight check at the pediatricians office. She is now up to 5lb 4oz so we are doing good getting weight on her. I am so happy she is gaining weight. It make nursing in the middle of the night worth it! Also Friday we went to visit Anna's Tata and Sedo. Tata is my mom and Sedo is my dad, these are Arabic names for grandparents. I thought Friday night was just going to be boring but my parents came over and we ended up taking Anna to Las Palmas. My parents eat at Las Palmas every Friday night and sometimes Sunday nights and we go there all the time for family stuff. Our friends Chuck and Kelly stopped in and had dinner with us. We stayed there so late but it was nice to be out of the house and visiting with people. Saturday we cleaned house, my mom helped give Anna her first bath, and then went to my parents that night.

I sat inside with Anna, since it is so hot, while Jeffrey helped my parents clean out their gutters. Anna had her newborn pictures taken on Sunday by Jessica Worley. She is great and I have seen a sneak at her pictures and they are wonderful. Check out her website http://sweetlittlethingsphotography.net/. Today we went to Little Rock to buy a book since I started summer school today. I am going to have my plate so full!! I should be reading right now so I will go get started. I hope to get ahead but its going to be hard to get ahead when summer school is only five weeks. Hope everyone had a great Monday! I will leave you with Anna's one week and 2 week pictures. I will take her 3 week picture tomorrow.

2 Weeks Old

Yesterday Anna turned 2 weeks old. She really started acting like a normal baby last night and was screaming. I think she is having some tummy issues, poor baby. We went to the doctor yesterday because Anna has been choking which scares me to death. They said she probably has reflux. I spoke with the nurse this morning and the medicine they gave her can make her tummy hurt so I think that is why she was so upset last night. She didn't even want to nurse which makes me sad because I know she is hungry. We are just hanging around the house tonight. I think its suppose to start storming sometime today, hopefully it doesn't get too bad because I hate storms. I am going to try and cook dinner tonight, I am horrible at cooking but we will see how it goes. I hope to start blogging more to document our crazy life so I can have it to show to Anna one day. We will see how much I can blog. I start summer school on Monday and I have 2 classes plus a newborn so we will see how hard it is. Have a great day!

Anna Elizabeth Hughey

Well our life has changed.....and it's the best change in the world!!! Introducing Miss Anna Elizabeth Hughey! We went to the doctor on May 3rd for my 37 week check up. I have had some blood pressure issues throughout the pregnancy and my blood pressure was really high on this day. So my doctor sent me over to the hospital for a 24 hour observation and urine collection. So my mom hurried to the hospital and we hung out all day. The next morning, May 4th, my new nurse came in and she put the monitor on Anna and we sat and listened to her heart beat for about 20 minutes. The nurse came back in to take the monitors off and we were talking. She said you just had two contractions did you not feel them? And I hadn't felt either of them. I was getting ready to go use the bathroom and take a shower, when all of the sudden my water broke! I took a shower and the doctor came over and checked me. I was dilated to a centimeter. So we moved over to labor and delivery. I had contractions for awhile and never could feel any of them. The computer systems were messed up that day because they were getting a new system so it wasn't monitoring my contractions correctly. Then the contractions started! They weren't showing up on the monitor so when I asked Jeffrey if I was having a contraction he would say no and I was like what the heck these hurt. Since I thought I was only dilated a centimeter I didn't want to be a baby and get an epidural already, so I had them give me some pain meds which were awful and made me so sick. They checked again and I was dilated to a 3 so I decided it was time for the epidural. I had been worried about the epidural before hand but after feeling those contractions I just wanted something to make me feel better. I am glad I got my epidural when I did because I dilated to a 5 very quickly then before I knew it I was dilated to a 7. I only pushed for about 15 minutes and Anna was born at 6:01 pm and she was perfect. She weighed 4lbs 12 oz and was 18 inches long. It's amazing she is so small because I was huge!!

She was born at 37 weeks and 2 days so she was considered a near term baby. She stayed in the nursery with the other babies but had her own nurse. I was discharged from the hospital on Thursday May 6th but since Anna had lost weight down to 4lb 5oz we were able to room in while she stayed in the hospital. We finally went home on Mother's Day, May 9th, what a great Mother's Day gift.

Anna will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and as of Friday weighed 4lb 14oz. We are nursing like crazy working on getting her weight up. We go back to the doctor on Friday for another weight check.
I love being a mom, Anna is the sweetest little girl in the whole world and I love her more than anything in this world.
